AI @ UWE Bristol
This course provides a grounding in generative artificial intelligence (AI) for university staff and perspectives on student use. It covers core topics, platforms, ethics, and techniques that are relevant to all users, while also clarifying expectations specific to teaching staff at UWE Bristol. It also provides an approach to how you might frame the use of AI with your students.
How you engage with AI will depend on many factors, including your programme, your disciplinary context and expectations of your programme. However, it is essential that you engage with the key issues raised in this course and seek to use AI responsibly across our University communities.
This and other resources are continually developed and there is an opportunity to feedback at the end.
It should take approximately one hour to complete.

While it’s possible to jump straight into using tools and platforms in your teaching, we believe it’s essential to develop an understanding of what will be expected of you in an academic context. Your teaching responsibilities will shape how you engage with AI and it is necessary to develop an understanding of the implications of use.
We also want to highlight the need for critical approaches to AI outputs and the technologies themselves. Finally, we want to touch on where you can find some of the tools that UWE Bristol has secured for your use.

Unit 2: AI fluency – using it effectively and responsibly
